King of the Kart

On 18 November2018, a group of Public Relation students organized an event called King of the Kart, a go-kart racing competition. At around 7.30 am in the morning, all committee members and volunteers gathered to do some last minute preparations for the event.

At about 8am, the participants started arriving, and the registration process began. Participants checked their personal information once again and handed in their signed indemnity forms. On top of that, the participants were given the event t-shirt to wear throughout this event. An hour later, the safety briefing of the go-kart racing competition began with a video presentation by City Karting themselves. All necessary safety rules and regulations followed suit. After the safety briefings, the participants then got to test their karts for 15 minutes before the race began at 10am. All participants got to go one round around the circuit to determine their starting positions in the starting grid for the race.

At 10am, the race started. A track operator kept track of the timing for each team as well as the number of laps completed. The teams are ranked based on the number of laps completed minus any penalties incurred. At the same time, the committee members walked around and gave out refreshments to keep the participants hydrated under the hot sun. While other committee members were busy filming the race, some were preparing the lunch booth. After one hour, the race ended. The results were shown on a TV screen in the main area. Most participants felt it was a good race. After a quick 10-minute break, the prize-giving ceremony took place followed by a photo session and lunch. Finally, the event ended at 12:30 pm, where all the committee members and volunteers helped out to clean the event area for the closing ceremony. It was a great experience for the Public Relation students. It was hectic at first, but in the end, it all worked out fine.
