Last July, 5th July to 22nd July, HELP, Matriculation Centre (HMC) organized a series of workshops especially for students who are preparing to enter college. These workshops were designed to enable students to get a head start in college and be exposed to new things and opportunities that will serve as the platform for their future endeavours.
The dedicated team that ran the workshops gathered their best life hacks and organized them into three weeks of workshops. The workshops were conducted on every Monday (10.30am – 12pm) and Thursday (2.30pm – 4pm).
Week 1 – 5th July
The July Workshops 2021 started off with a personal sharing session with our very own Dean of HMC, Mr Dhanesh Balakrishnan. The session was the perfect opportunity for students to ask questions and gain valuable insights. It was then followed by “What’s Up With You” workshop, which was designed to help students explore the effects of their attitudes on their life.

Week 1 – 8th July
Online learning can be scary. The “What Makes a Successful Online Learner?” workshop was created to help students transition from traditional learning to online learning. It is hoped that students will not just thrive but also increase their productivity in their respective online classrooms. Week 1 ended with “Do You Have What It Takes” workshop. The workshop focused on embracing individuality and learning to effectively use skills that one already has.

Week 2 – 12th July

Week 2 started with a fun-filled workshop titled “Homies Mukbang Conference” where students got to know each other through their favourite food and drinks. It was then followed by “What Talk You?” workshop. This workshop was designed to equip students with good communication skills and the ability to build and maintain good relationships. Students were challenged to execute effective one-on-one conversations and to participate in small group discussions.
Week 2 – 15th July
The other workshop held in Week 2 was on “BUJO” or also known as Bullet Journaling. In this workshop, students were taught how to use bullet journaling to help them track their learning goals, prepare task lists, and organize ideas.

Week 2 ended with “HMC Instant Influencer (Part 1)” workshop where the students got to pick up some TikTok tips and hacks. This workshop was packed with useful information for students who are looking to stay updated on current social media trends. It also included some helpful information on how to build content around popular communities, making it easier for students to start being instant influencers. In this workshop, each student was given a task titled “HMC Instant Influencer” where they had to create a video that is less than a minute long on their expectations of college life. Students were given one week to create the video and submit.
Week 3 – 19th July
The final week of the workshop started off with “Engineer Your Life”. This workshop addressed the desires for self-knowledge and the need for self-awareness. It was also meant to help students get to know themselves better and to understand why they act the way they do.
Week 3 – 22nd July
The first workshop of the day was a workshop called “Mathness with Numbers”. It was a fun and engaging math workshop designed for students to build their creative thinking skills by recognizing and interpreting numerical values and relationships. The July Workshop 2021 ended with “HMC Instant Influencer (Part 2)” workshop where the winner of the HMC Instant Influencer task was selected and announced.
The winner walked away with RM100 and the HMC Instant Influencer Starter Pack consisting of a tripod, a ring light and an LED strip. The workshop ended with a warm welcome video by some of the top influencers in Malaysia such as Anna Jobling, Harry Kok, Amber Chia, Mark Odea and Zee Avi.
Here’s a special shout out to all the amazing lecturers and student facilitators who made the July Workshop 2021 a success.
