PEDALS Workshop: Creating a Vision Deck

By Sheena Tanotha Jewel Mhango

On the 24th of June 2022 (Friday), the foundation student from May 2022 intake attended a PEDALS Academy workshop. This workshop was held at Wisma CL, UL LH2. There were around 30 students joining this session, and we have a lot of fun building our first vision deck.

A vision deck is a smaller vision board with pictures, goals etc. that help its user to visualize their goals and keeps them motivated. We were asked to bring a few things such as blank A6 cards, colored pens and pencils and fasteners or binders. The PEDALS facilitator walked us through 10 steps to help us create our first vision deck.

The first step was finding our personal mission statement. Of its many definitions, it can simply be defined as what we stand for, our unshakable principles and values. We then answered questions related and write down the first draft of our mission statement.

The next step was to write down any achievements that we have accomplished in our life. This is intended to serve as a reminder of days when we need to look back to see how far we have come and be grateful for it.

The next card in the deck has the statement has the words “If today is your last day on earth, would you be happy with where you are right now?”. The answer to that question is supposed to let us know where we are currently in life.

The remaining 7 cards are for us to fill in our beliefs, favorite quote, verse etc. followed by our affirmations/truths about ourselves in the next card, our one-year goals and then our 10-year goals, a photo, or photos of anything we want such as our loved ones or places we want to visit. Next, we fill up the card with things we spend our time doing like hobbies and the last card is our to do list which are our short-term goals.

Attending the PEDALS workshop was inspiring and making my first vision deck was fun, as it helped me figure out and pinpoint a few things in my life and I have already started checking off items on my to-do list.
